  • File Your 2011 Homestead Benefit Application by June 30th.

The State of New Jersey sent out a notice about filing for the 2011 Homestead Benefit Application.

To file your 2011 Homestead Benefit Application you will need to obtain your personal Identification Number and PIN by using the link below. Once you have your Identification Number and PIN, you can download a copy of the 2011 application packet that contains a worksheet and filing instructions. Or, if you are ready, you can file your application immediately.

To obtain your Homestead Benefit Identification Number and PIN click the following link, which will take you to a site on the State of New Jersey’s secure server:

    https://www16.state.nj.us/TYTR_Saver_Email/jsp/SaverEmailLogin.jsp

The deadline for filing a 2011 Homestead Benefit Application is June 30, 2012.

If you apply and qualify for a homestead benefit, it will be paid in the form of a credit on a future property tax bill or in the form of a check sent directly to you. Eligible homeowners whose benefits are being paid as credits can expect to receive a revised property tax bill or advice copy from the tax collector that will reflect the amount of the benefit. Additional information on homestead benefit payment is available in the application packet that you can view and print after you obtain your Identification Number and PIN.

Sale of Property. If you no longer own the property that was your principal residence on October 1, 2011, or you are about to sell your home, be sure to read the instructions on page 2 of the application packet for “What to Do if You Sold or Plan to Sell Your Home” before filing your Homestead Benefit Application, or you risk losing your benefit.

Information on homestead benefit payment and amounts will be available on the Division of Taxation’s Web site (http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/) after the completion of the State Budget for fiscal year 2013, that must be adopted by July 1, 2012.

If you have questions about the Homestead Benefit Program, click on https://www.state.nj.us/treas/taxation/contactus_tythome.shtml to send an e-mail or call the Homestead Benefit Hotline at 1-888-238-1233 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.
